informative and FUN

Self-proclaimed "birth nerds" with a good sense of humour.

Welcome to
mission prenatal

Educators who have become friends. We are passionate about birth and empowering parents with knowledge. We've been teaching together since 2011.

We want to ease your anxiety and make sure you're not bringing any baggage to one of the most unique experiences of your life.

Topics in our classes include:

- how do you know you're getting into labour?
- stages and phases of labour
- comfort and coping strategies
- pharmacological pain relief options
- interventions (induction, augmentation, assisted delivery)
- cesarean birth
- key points of breastfeeding
- the first few days with baby

We cater to parents from all backgrounds with a variety of hopes and wishes for birth (and those who have no clue what those might be!).

Meet the teachers

Sam Strange
Though she has two kids of her own now, Sam fell in love with birth long before she ever had a baby. While training as a prenatal yoga instructor she met a group of doulas and could hardly wait to get home and sign up to train as one too. One thing led to another and after some more training she met Cindy and the rest is history!

She has a genuine belief that birth is a normal (though extraordinary) human experience, and that the more informed we are about it, the more empowered we will be

Sam is involved in many things in the Mission community and loves giving back to the place that she was born and raised.
Cindy would tell you that Sam is the one who remembers all the hormones.

Cindy Penner
Infamous for her epic hospital birth and accidental homebirth (at someone else's house she might add!), Cindy comes to birth with a wonderful sense of humor and above all, perspective.

She wears many hats...but her favorite is being with expecting parents, teaching evidence based birth practices and making sure they are informed and aware of all their options.

Cindy is a proud and active member of the Mission community. She loves her day job at Mission Midwifery (playing an office manager). Sam would tell you that Cindy is the funny one.
